Through working with the Washington State Department of Ecology, Sen. Steve Litzow secured a $794,293 grant to improve water quality at Bellevue Downtown park.

Litzow, who represents the 41st Legislative District (consisting of Bellevue, Beaux Arts, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Renton and Sammamish) was happy to secure the grant for Bellevue.

“Bellevue Downtown Park is an incredible asset for our entire Eastside community,” said Litzow. “It’s encouraging to see the state continue investing in our local park while also recognizing the importance of maintaining high water quality in a way that protects people and the environment.”

The grant funding will go specifically to retrofitting the park with water quality treatment and flow control for stormwater runoff.

The funding comes from Washington’s Stormwater Financial Assistance Program, which funds stormwater facilities and “activities that have been proven effective at reducing environmental degredation from stormwater impacts resulting from eisting infrastructure and development.”

Bellevue Downtown Park is a 20-acre park in Downtown with a stepped canal and 240-foot wide waterfall and reflecting pond.

Litzow secured a $1 million grant for Inspiration Playground at Bellevue Downtown park to provide outdoor activities for children and parents with disabilities.
