The Compassionate Friends Eastside Chapter of the national organization held a Walk to Remember event at the Mercer Slough Nature Park in Bellevue on Sunday, July 20.

The Compassionate Friends is a nonprofit self-help organization offering friendship, support, and hope to families who have experienced the death of one or more of their children. TCF’s mission is to reach out to bereaved parents and be of help to them in their grief journey.

Sunday’s walk coincided with one conducted at the national level the same day in Nashville, Tenn., as well as at several dozen chapter locations across the country. More than 100 walkers participated in the local event.

The purpose of the walk was to bring awareness of TCF to bereaved parents, and to experience a reflective, peaceful walk and the fellowship of a short remembrance ceremony followed by a barbecue.

The Eastside chapter of The Compassionate Friends meets monthly on the second Thursday at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Kirkland, 10021 N.E. 124th Street. The Aug. 14 meeting is the annual Balloon Ceremony and dessert event, starting at 7 p.m.

All grieving parents and families are invited to attend the ceremony.
