Lake Washington Kangaroos 2014 graduate Jordan LaFave is putting together a stellar sophomore season with the Bellevue Bulldogs collegiate baseball team.

The sophomore starting shortstop has gone 32-for-108 at the plate with 10 RBI thus far. The Bulldogs currently boast an overall record of 26-9. LaFave’s steadiness at the plate has served his squad well but LaFave enjoys playing defense more than anything else on the diamond.

“I have always been that defense first kind of guy,” LaFave said.

During the 2015 season, LaFave played second base but is thrilled to be back at shortstop this year. He has made only six errors in 31 games played.

“I played short (shortstop) my whole life. Last year we didn’t have a second baseman, so I moved into that spot. It’s nice to be back there (shortstop) this year,” he said. “When you’re playing shortstop you got to do what you got to do. Everybody is always looking at you on that one.”

The expectations are the same year in and year out for the Bulldogs. They want to hoist the NWAC championship trophy in Longview this May.

“We had a letdown season last year. We have a lot of guys back and we’re ready to get back at it. We want the NWAC championship,” LaFave said.

The Reporter recently had an opportunity to ask LaFave a few questions about his life away from the baseball diamond.

Bellevue Reporter: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Jordan LaFave: “Step Brothers.” It is pretty funny.

BR: Who was your idol growing up?

JL: It was Derek Jeter (New York Yankees shortstop). I grew up watching him. My dad always made me watch videos of him to help me get the feel for the game.

BR: Who is your pick to win the National Basketball Association championship this June?

JL: I’m going to have to go with the Golden State Warriors. They are too good. They have too many shooters and too many good guys.
