Education advocate Rep. Marcie Maxwell (D-Renton) was recently honored with the Washington State PTA’s “Friend of Children” Award at the 2011 Annual Convention in SeaTac. Maxwell represents the 41st Legislative District, which includes part of Bellevue.

The PTA awarded Maxwell in recognition of her work on behalf of children. This year Maxwell prime sponsored legislation to recognize and encourage innovation in Washington schools, continue education reforms, and help sustain funding for music education.

Maxwell is the House Deputy Majority Leader for Education and Opportunity.
