Henry David Aitken

Dave was born in Seattle on June 18, 1927 and died on May 31, 2009.After the outbreak of WWII he joined the Navy and was attached to Carlson’s Second Raiders and the Sixth Marines, Sixth Regiment. He was assigned to beach demolition and participated in the invasions of Okinawa and Iwo Jima before being sent to Korea and later China.After being discharged he returned to Seattle and graduated from West Seattle High School. Soon after that he joined the US Marshall’s Service and in 1953 the Seattle Police Department. Dave was a homicide detective for many years and retired in 1980 after 27 years on the force.Dave was a person of many interests ranging from cooking to poetry to his extensive gun collection. He loved the outdoors from hunting and fishing to collecting mushrooms. His shaggy dog stories were legendary. Dave was a person who enjoyed people and he was much loved and will be greatly missed.He is survived by his wife Patricia (Pat), sons Bruce (Nancy), Mark (Lisa), John (Connie) and daughter Tina (Diana) and grandchildren and great grandchildren.There will be no services at his request but a memorial gathering will be held later.To quote from a poem he wrote:

Tall hills of home were calling

Tall mountains cloaked with snow

‘Neath tall straight trees

my soul will rest

For I have wandered home.
