Edith Vernie Landerholm Woodworth
Edith Woodworth passed away on April 22, 2012, at age 94. She will always be remembered by her friends and family for her warm and ready smile, and caring nature. Born at East Mill Plain near Vancouver, Washington on June 4, 1917, Edith’s early years included several moves around southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. This included a couple of summers living with her family in a tent on her grandparent’s property in La Center, Washington. Edith got to know her eventual husband, Robert Woodworth, in high school and while attending the Institute at Ocean Park with the Epworth League from Vancouver First Methodist Church. After graduating from Vancouver High School in 1934, Edith attended Washington State College (now WSU) earning a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics and Bachelor of Education in 1940. She and Bob became engaged that same year. While Bob finished school and enlisted in the army, Edith taught high school in Morton, Washington. Edith and Bob were married in 1942 and started an adventure that would last them the rest of their lives. In 1961, Edith and Bob moved their family to Bellevue. While raising five children, Edith still found time to be very active in her local church, and never lost her sense of humor. She particularly liked to demonstrate her sense of humor around April 1st. One never knew when children’s building block would be frosted and transformed into a sheet cake and served for desert.Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Woodworth in 2006. She is survived by 5 children: Edith Ritchey and husband Harvey, Donald Woodworth and wife Toni, Melvin Woodworth and wife Candice, Elaine Stanovsky and husband Clint, Douglas Woodworth and wife Carla, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Edith’s life will be celebrated at Bellevue First United Methodist Church on May 6th, at 3:00 P.M. In her memory please consider donations to any of the following: United Methodist Women of Bellevue First United Methodist Church; Washington State University; Ocean Park Camp, United Methodist Church.
