Wilbur (Bill) Leslie Barker
Wilbur L. Barker of Bellevue passed away on February 4, 2013 at the age of 93. He was born on March 10, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN, where he spent his early years. Bill was a veteran of WWII and was awarded 2 bronze stars. He relocated to Seattle in 1949 and was employed by Boeing, retiring in 1986. During that time he held many management positions around the U.S. and retired as a Senior Procurement Manager for Boeing Aerospace Materiel. Bill is survived by his wife Ruth, son Steve (Janis), daughters Linda McLeroy (Larry) and Janice Thompson (Dan), and stepchildren Bret Morrison, Kathy Anderson, and Brian Morrison (Sheri). Also surviving him are 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by son Jay. Bill was very active in community work and began the Seattle chapter of the “Mended Hearts” organization after retiring. He also was active in the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) for 10 years and a volunteer with the USO for a number of years. His quiet, unassuming personality and positive outlook made Bill a very special person to know. A family graveside service with military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery. A memorial celebration for family and friends will be held at Westminster Chapel on Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in his honor to World Vision at 34834 Weyerhaeuser Way S., P.O.
