Bellevue Christian alumnus Hans Struzyna was one of three University of Washington rowers to be selected to represent the United States in the 2009 Under 23 World Rowing Championships July 23-26 in Racice, Czech Republic.
Struzyna was one of two sophomores in the 2009 IRA national championship varsity eight. The boat defeated California in dual racing on April 25, then went on to win the national titling in a come-from-behind victory at Lake Natoma on June 6.
He will row in the quadruple scull for the United States alongside Singen Elliott of Cornell, Sean Engel of the University of California and Martin Etem, an unaffiliated rower from Long Beach, Calif.
Struzyna, who will be a junior at UW, graduated from Bellevue Christian in 2007 and was named team captain and “Oarsman of the Year” during his senior year for the Sammamish Rowing Association.
Also named to the U.S. team were seniors Adrienne Martelli (women’s eight) and senior Blaise Didier (men’s eight). Nine members of the UW rowing team were named to the Canadian U23 national team.
