More than 15 Kung Fu Shaolin masters from both China and beyond will descend on Washington to showcase their unique Shaolin skills on Sept. 9. The community is invited to witness an authentic Shaolin Kung Fu performance and experience the Shaolin culture.
Warrior monks will demonstrate various skills and techniques which are seldom seen outside the world ofShaolin including “Hard Qigong” (a system of physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention) that empowers the monk to pierce a pane of glass with a thrown needle; iron jacket; golden bell shield; animal forms; four spears piercing the body; iron crotch; and two finger hand stand.
“These Disciples have been trained in the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, the birthplace of Kung Fu and martial arts in China,” Master Lei Zhou said. “This showcase is an excellent opportunity to catch an exclusive glimpse, and learn about the benefits of Kung Fu and the spirit of Shaolin.”
Shaolin Kung Fu originated at the time of building of the Shaolin temple in 495 AD. This ancient art anddiscipline has been in development for more than 1500 years. It is distinguished as it has produced the largestnumber of generals and masters in history, has the most extensive techniques, skills and philosophy, enrichespeople’s lives and leads to spiritual fulfilment. The school that has provided the largest group of Kung Fumasters as well as of Kung Fu students at any one time during the long history of Chinese martial arts is Shaolin.
Additionally, this showcase will demonstrate the very essence and spirit of Shaolin: Compassion, Wisdom,Peace, and Harmony.
