Regarding the recent letter, “Let the statues remain.” Those statues were erected long after the Civil War ended. They were built to intimidate people of color during the time of Jim Crow laws. They were built to remind people of color that they were still inferior.

The statues should have been destroyed a long time ago. By the way, if you want to complain about erasure of facts, there’s little to nothing said about people of color who fought in World War I or the fact that many people of color had to wait almost 100 years to posthumously receive medals of honor in the U.S.
