Bellevue police to hire 15-20 more officers this year

A recruitment campaign is underway

The Bellevue Police Department is in need of more officers.

To appeal to applicants, the department unveiled a new website Monday aimed at recruitment, according to the department’s Bellevue Beat Blog.

The website, www.protectbellevue.com, is the first step in an updated comprehensive recruiting and hiring effort for the Bellevue Police Department. The initiative includes a website, online ads launching February and search engine optimization.

Bellevue police hired 20 new officers in 2017, and are looking to hire an additional 15 to 20 officers in 2018. The recruitment campaign is underway to address vacancies due to retirements and achieve more diversity among the force by increasing the pool of eligible applicants.

The department is seeking both entry level police officer applicants with no law enforcement experience, as well as experienced lateral police officer applicants with at least 24 months of experience. Opportunities within the department offer “excellent pay and benefits, and world class training and equipment.”

The Bellevue Police Department has 184 commissioned employees and a total staff of 225, providing professional police services to Bellevue, the fifth-largest city in Washington state.
