Bellevue police are no longer treating the death of a 17-year-old girl as suspicious.

A juvenile resident of a Bellevue home, located in the 600 block of 153rd Avenue Northeast, found the girl, who was from Snohomish, in his backyard at 7:41 p.m. April 18. The girl was unconscious. According to Bellevue police Major John McCracken, the boy told his mom, who called 911 and performed CPR.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the girl outside. Bellevue fire personnel attempted lifesaving measures for several minutes before she was declared deceased.

McCracken said it appears the girl died from a drug overdose, however, police are awaiting toxicology results from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office to learn exactly what drug and how much she took.

“At this time, we do not anticipate any criminal charges as a result of this investigation,” Bellevue police spokesperson Seth Tyler said.

McCracken said the girl was not living at the house, but stayed there a couple of nights, as she was a runaway. Officers do not know if she was currently attending school.

The Reporter has chosen not to name the teen because she is a minor.
