What about inequality?

One drawback with having so much of the media controlled by billionaires is that problems and concerns that affect millions of Americans get very little coverage.

Inequality is more and more being recognized as possibly the one big problem behind much of the unrest in the world, yet reporters are not looking at why so many people for example are living from paycheck to paycheck as was uncovered in the recent government shutdown.

I, for one, can see a lot of reasons since the Reagan Administration so many millions are falling out of the middle class and many others falling into poverty and more becoming homeless. Yet there is very little coverage regarding how polices have led to the destruction of so many lives.

Just at Davos an angry historian ripped the ultra-rich over tax avoidance yet this is not making front page news as it should. Also conservatives constantly reject calls for medical care for all sighting cost but have no problem wasting trillions of tax dollars on wars and taking down governments in other countries creating chaos in those countries.

I ask the media why politicians have no problem bailing out the rich such as was the case with the 2008 financial crisis and wasting trillions on wars. I am still waiting for an answer as to where the truck loads of dollars sent to Iraq went.

Why is not the media demanding accountability regarding trillions of tax dollars given to the military over the decades?

Better solutions available

It’s not clear how much Microsoft’s pledge to spend $475 million of the $500 million providing “below market loans” to developers will do to “create affordable housing in the Puget Sound region.” Those lauding the pledge could do far more to make housing more “affordable” by advocating for reducing the $60.09 hourly “prevailing wage rates” for carpenters in King County in 2019.
