Men’s shelter questions

The recent news Bellevue will finally have a year-round men’s homeless shelter is cause for questions. It’s one thing to provide temporary shelter for families. It’s another problem to deal with homeless men. With many of them it’s not just a case of needing temporary shelter — they need help with serious mental problems or drug addiction.

Will they be admitted to the shelter? If not, where will they be directed to go? If allowed to stay will those running the shelter have the resources needed to effectively deal with their problems? How long will they be allowed to stay? At what point will they be released back into the community?

Even compassion has its limits. Those advocating the shelter need to provide adequate answers before proceeding.
