A new art exhibit is on display at the South Bellevue Community Center.

The winter/holiday themed art exhibit displays work from four Bellevue artists. The exhibit opened Nov. 1 and will conclude Jan. 2, 2020.

The artists include Bellevue-based photographer Lisa Merrill, embroiderer Laura Grover, oil painter Farida Hakim and acrylic and watercolor artist Dolores Marquez.

The lobby hallway of the South Bellevue Community Center (14509 SE Newport Way) has been designated as a display area for art created and submitted by residents. The Art Wall is designed to help the city achieve its goal of exhibiting a variety of artwork in public places, and it aims to enrich the lives of people who live and work in Bellevue.

Displays are limited to non-commercial material and celebrate the diversity of the community.

South Bellevue Community Center program coordinator Beau Stanford said this is the first time the Art Wall has requested artists to submit pieces according to a specific theme.

“We thought it would be fun to have a winter/holiday theme,” he said. “We reached out to artists we’ve featured in the past to submit work that would be appropriate for that theme.”

Since the exhibit’s opening, Stanford said it has received positive feedback.

“It’s great to see their work displayed and see the differences in the types of art,” he said. “It’s cool to join together artists of different styles and see their work side-by-side.”
