Cindy Benedek, the Associate Head of School at the Jewish Day School in Bellevue, is one of 15 applicants accepted for the Day School Leadership Training Institute (DSLTI) at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.
“We were thrilled to learn that one of our administrators has been accepted into this outstanding professional development program which trains and supports aspiring heads of Jewish day schools in North America,” said Maria Erlitz, JDS’ Interim Head of School. “Cindy’s experience with DSLTI’s cutting edge curriculum and ongoing mentoring and support will be invaluable for our entire leadership team at JDS.”
The exclusive training institute in New York works to ensure the growth and success of Jewish day schools by developing heads of school who exemplify Jewish values and are committed to serving future generations. Benedek will embark on a 14-month program consisting of two four-week summer institutes, retreats and mentoring.
“I feel honored to be accepted into this intensive professional growth experience which helps Jewish day school leaders acquire the unique skills and qualities needed to lead a day school today,” Benedek said. “I can’t wait to share the details of my experience with JDS as I progress through the program.”
Benedek came to JDS as the school’s Preschool Director in 2006, worked as Admissions Director in 2007 and became Associate Head of School in 2008.
Previously, she worked as the Director of Kids Country in Issaquah. Prior to that, she was a preschool teacher for six years and a program supervisor for a day care program in Canada.
Benedek attended a Jewish day school for her elementary education and received her BA in Psychology from York University in Toronto Canada and a Concurrent Early Childhood Education diploma from Seneca College.
