Newport boys, girls fall

The Newport boys lost 77-45 to Issaquah Friday to finish the regular season, falling in a double-digit first half deficit.

Will Ferris scored 17 and Jason Lock added 11 in the loss.

The Knights dropped a 54-34 game to the Eagles in girls hoops, as Kaitlin Sahlinger put in 11 points.

Bellevue wrapped up a perfect season in 3A KingCo boys basketball earlier in the week, beating rival Mercer Island 56-53 and putting a stamp on its regular season crown.

The top-seeded Wolverines will open the 3A KingCo Tournament Feb. 11 at Bellevue College against the winner of a first round game between Mount Si and Interlake.

The Saints lost 69-55 to their Crossroads Cup rivals from Sammamish Friday, claiming the fifth seed to Saturday’s opening round of the conference tournament against the Wildcats at 7 p.m. in Snoqualmie.

Sammamish came up a single game shy of earning a postseason spot in Class 2A, finishing just behind Lake Washington for the lone KingCo berth in the district tournament.

Four straight wins for the Totems closed the gap, capped by a 57-52 win over Mount Si in the regular season finale.

Bellevue girls seeded fourth for KingCo tourney

The Wolverines won three straight to close the regular season, including a 59-43 victory over Mercer Island Wednesday.

Only Interlake stands between Bellevue and a semi-final date next week. The two meet Saturday at 7 p.m. on Wolverine Way.

The Saints lost 54-24 to Juanita Wednesday.

Sammamish finished behind Lake Washington in the conference standings, missing out on a postseason spot.
