Baseball

Newport 5 Issaquah 2

Jacob Rosen picked up another win on the mound after battling through a difficult first three innings, going five and allowing only a pair of runs in Newport’s win over rival Issaquah.

The Eagles led 2-0 heading into the fourth before five straight runs from the Knights, the first of which came on a squeeze play, shifted the tide.

Justin Vernia worked five innings on the mound for coach Rob Reese and Issaquah, striking out six and allowing only a single earned run.

Conner Baumann picked up the two inning save, facing only one over the minimum in the final two frames to seal the win.

The bottom third of the order did the damage at the plate for coach Hal DeBerry’s Knights, as Sumair Shah, Mack Barry, Ryan Darrow and Joey Reines finished with RBI, along with leadoff hitter Tyler Nakama. Shah was 2-2 with a run scored.

The Eagles outhit Newport 6-5 but were undone by four errors.

The Saints took all four of the singles matches behind Isabelle Long, Lina Larson, Maggie Locke and Grace Hsieh, and won the number two and three doubles matches as well.

Boys soccer

Bellevue 2 Sammamish 1

Roman Rivera got the Wolverines on the board in the 29th minute and a Ryan Harber strike off a free kick put Bellevue in front for good against crosstown Sammamish.

Gio Sanchez assisted on a goal for the Totems in the second half before Harber’s goal.

Boys lacrosse

Bellevue 18 Issaquah 10

Cole Johnson scored six goals and added five assists as his team remained unbeaten with a 18-10 win over Issaquah.

Hank Bethke scored five goals for the Wolverines, which raced to an 8-2 lead after the first quarter.
