It was a special day Sunday for a special cruise as members and friends of Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club took members of the area’s developmentally disabled community on an afternoon cruise around Lake Washington.

The program, now in its 20th year, involves scores of volunteers at the yacht club who provide a buffet meal for their special passengers, give them a party at the clubhouse and then set sail for an hour or more around the lake.

During the cruise, passengers were able to call Santa on a VHF radio to put in their requests for Christmas presents.

The boats were decked out with Christmas lights and on one it appeared that Santa himself was piloting the vessel.

Including the passengers, more than 300 people took part in the Sunday event.
