Voters looking to cast their ballots at the Bellevue Accessible Voting Center, one of only three in-person locations in the county, are experiencing long waits.
King County Elections Spokeswoman Sabra Schneider said the wait varies between one hour, 15 minutes and one hour, 45 minutes.
According to volunteers onsite, the wait time is nearing the three-hour mark. With only four of the five voting machines working, the line, along with frustration by voters, continues to grow.
Snoqualmie resident Greg Bennett stood in line waiting to cast his vote and quickly became fed up with the wait. He left and then returned to stand in line again, determined to fulfill what he referred to as his constitutional right.
“I’m frustrated at the lack of structure here, but I won’t let them take my civil rights away,” Bennett said.
Fellow voter Lindsey Stewart nodded in agreement as Bennett spoke.
“If they can allow us to file taxes online, why can’t we vote online? This is costing them voters,” she added.
The centers are set up to give voters who lost their ballot or never received one a chance to make their mark on the election.
“I didn’t lose my ballot,” Bennett said. “I never got one in the first place.”
Schneider said the voting booths have been overwhelmed by the traffic of voters.
“Last minute voters have essentially overwhelmed what was intended to be a process for voters who lost their ballot or needed accessible voting options,” she said.
Schneider urged voters to wait out the delays. She said all voters who line up before 8 p.m. will be able to cast their ballots.
