The City of Bellevue recently earned the 2022 Governor’s Smart Communities Award from the Department of Commerce for its Mobility Implementation Plan (MIP). The MIP provides a new, long-range planning framework that will assist city officials with determining project investments in the transportation system based on all ways people travel, such as walking, biking, driving and taking public transportation.
“We are honored to receive this award as we look towards an increasingly multimodal future where our community has many transportation modes to choose from,” said Andrew Singelakis, Transportation Director.
The award recognizes local governments for outstanding work in creating vibrant and livable communities by achieving goals of the Growth Management Act. Bellevue’s MIP was recognized in the “smart projects” category for the successful implementation of a comprehensive plan.
The MIP was developed by the Transportation Commission through public input, and has four main goals: improving safety, considering equity, supporting growth and improving access and mobility. The purpose of the MIP is to ensure all of Bellevue’s transit plans are compatible with each other, and will incorporate elements such as multimodal concurrency, among others.
This is the first time Bellevue Transportation has been honored with the Governor’s Smart Communities Award. The Smart Communities Award presentation will take place at a Bellevue City Council meeting this fall.
