Council approves $475K Newport Hills property purchase | Land to be used for future park

The Bellevue City Council made its deadline Monday to purchase a $475,000 parcel of land in the Newport Hills neighborhood for a future park.

The Bellevue City Council made its deadline Monday to purchase a $475,000 parcel of land in the Newport Hills neighborhood for a future park.

Purchase of the 5-acre Patterson property, sited just north of the city-owned Tyler property next to Ringdall Middle School, provides the city with nearly 10 acres of land on which to develop a new park, said Bellevue Parks Director Patrick Foran.

While there is no budget for developing the land, Foran told the council the city will practice wildlife stewardship on the property and identify where future trails could go.

Councilmember John Chelminiak said, while there is no development funding now, there is plenty of opportunity for outreach in the Newport Hills community to design something the neighborhood will enjoy.
