Memorial Day weekend events set at Sunset Hills

Sunset Hills Memorial Park will hold its 61st annual Memorial Day program beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at the front entrance of the cemetery in Bellevue.

Sunset Hills Memorial Park will hold its 61st annual Memorial Day program beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at the front entrance of the cemetery in Bellevue.

The event is free and open to the public.

The program will include recognition of veterans and active duty military personnel, and will feature a fly-over of a B-25 Mitchell Bomber, a wreath laying ceremony, vocal performances, a special speaker, a flag folding ceremony, a dove release and a performance of Taps.

Sunset Hills is located at 1215 145th Place SE.

The cemetery will be open daily Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 with special activities.

The Military Living History Museum will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dressed in era-specific uniforms to honor our veterans, collectors of military memorabilia will be available at their displays to visit with guests, perform demonstrations and share information about their historical displays and memorabilia.

“The annual Memorial Day observance is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who have served and who have sacrificed,” said Gary Kemper, general manager of Sunset Hills Memorial Park. “We hope the families who join us for the program gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of honoring those men and women who died in war while serving our country as well as for those who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces.”
