The Bellevue City Council will hold a public hearing Monday to gather input as to whether it should extend an emergency ordinance regulating recreational marijuana businesses within the city.

The interim zoning ordinance was passed in October and extended in December. It allows retail in 13 different zones, however, growing and processing may only occur within light industrial zones. Regulations are also in place for added security and site measures.

The state liquor control board has also drafted rules that would prevent any such business from opening within 1,000 feet of a school, park, transit hub, child care center, playground, library, arcade center and collective gardens, which the city likewise adopted in its interim ordinance.

Bellevue is allowed four retail businesses within the city, but the liquor control board has not set limits on how many licenses for producers and processors may be approved.

Far more than four prospective recreational store operators applied for licensure in the city, which means there will need to be a lottery to decide who will get the four allowed in Bellevue.
