Cascade District recognizes volunteers at awards dinner

The Cascade District of the Boy Scouts of America recognized it’s local volunteers at the annual district awards dinner Thursday, June 11.

Special recognition went to four volunteers, Beth Carter, Michael Beck, Ned Karren and Helen Young who received the District Award of Merit. The award is the highest award that the district presents to its volunteers.

“These four deserve this award for their outstanding commitment, dedication and accomplishments,” said Elvin Bucu, the District Executive.

The evening included skits and live performances. Entertainment was provided by the district leadership with Elvin Bucu on the piano, Chris Pennella on guitar and Peter Wang playing the violin.

In all, the district awarded certificates to some 50 scouting volunteers of various troops and packs.

The Cascade District of the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America has 86 units and serves 1,830 youth in Bellevue, Mercer Island and North Renton.
