Bellevue Square became the first mall in the Northwest to install electric vehicle charging stations Tuesday.

In an opening ceremony Tuesday morning that saw an array of electric vehicles, including the sporty Tesla Roadsters in a variety of colors, 15 stations throughout the mall were opened for plug in.

The cost for each spot is approximately $2 an hour, and it allows shoppers to charge their vehicles while they shop.

The charging stations are scattered throughout various parking garages in the mall.

• Five  spots in the West Garage on the second level near the second sky bridge

• Four spots in the first floor of the Northeast Garage near Nordstrom

• Four spots in the first level of the Lincoln Square Garage

• Two spots in the Bellevue Place Garage on the first level

These particular charging stations are a part of a project from Coulomb Technologies’ ChargePoint network.

The new installation at the mall is part of a $37 million program to bring 4,600 stations to nine regions in the country, including the Bellevue-Redmond area.

In addition to this installation, Bellevue received the first home charging unit in the state last week.
