There are 22 players on a football field during every offensive play. Of those 22 players, there is only one player who is guaranteed to touch the ball every snap and it isn’t the quarterback, it’s the offensive center.
Bellevue Christian Vikings center Alex Irizarry knows how important his position is to the rest of his team.
“The play starts with me. If I don’t do my job, the play doesn’t go anywhere,” Irizarry said during a practice session in late June in downtown Bellevue.
The senior offensive lineman thoroughly enjoys the physical aspect of football. Irizarry has played tackle football ever since he was 12 years old.
“I love run blocking because you get to make hits. That is why we all play football,” he said.
Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Irizarry a few questions about his life away from the gridiron.
