A short section of well-traveled Southeast 26th Street, from 171st Avenue Southeast to West Lake Sammamish Parkway, will be closed to all traffic for two weeks as crews complete a storm water detention facility.

The closure is scheduled to run around the clock to 5 p.m. Monday, March 30.

This work is part of a larger project to install a six-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side of Southeast 26th Street, between 168th Avenue Southeast and West Lake Sammamish Pkwy, and a five-foot-wide bike lane on the north side of Southeast 26th Street.

Sidewalk and bike lane work will be accomplished Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with possible lane closures from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Other improvements on Southeast 26th Street include landscaped planters, drainage improvements and street lighting. Work began in January and is scheduled to wrap up by May of this year. Southeast 26th will then be repaved during the summer as part of the city’s annual overlay program.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to heed construction signs and flaggers, and follow detours where indicated.
