State track and field meet begins Thursday | 2A/3A/4A Track and Field

Woolsey, Lien win boys titles as Wolverines finish third at Sea-King meet

The Sea-King District track and field meet concluded on Saturday and Bellevue picked-up four wins and will send a handful of other athletes to the state meet as well.

Addison Woolsey won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.48, a half-second ahead of the second place finisher. Woolsey finished third in the 1,600 meters, earning him a spot in the field at state.

Tanner Lien, the defending 3A state champion in the javelin throw, ended the district meet in first place as well, with a throw of 191-07.

Matt Gilbert followed Lien with a 185-03 and is also on his way to state. Michael Kneip will represent Bellevue in the discus and shot put on May 26-28 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma as well. Kneip finished second in the discus and third in the shot put for the Wolverines at districts.

Blake Erickson ended in a tie for fourth in the pole vault, earning him a spot at state and the Wolverines 1,600 meter relay team of Henry Price, Woody Butler, Woolsey and Ari Morales did likewise with a third place finish. Butler will also run in the 400 meter dash.

Floriane Kameni continued her impressive freshman season, earning a spot at state in the 100 (fourth place at districts) and the long jump, where she took home the top spot at the district meet with a jump of 17-00.

Julia Ellings will join Kameni at state and will run in the 800 meters. She finished fifth in the event at districts just a half-second ahead of the sixth-place finisher for the final state entry.

Wong leads Newport girls

Kristine Wong, a junior at Newport, will compete for the Knights in the high jump and triple jump at state while senior James Dupar will run in the 110 meter hurdles for the boys.

Saints will be well represented at state

In the 2A classification, Interlake will send several athletes to compete in a myriad of events.

Summer Hanson will run in the second preliminary of the 800 meters and will also run on relays for the Saints in the 800 meter relay and 1,600 meter relay. Nikita Waghani will participate in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs. Nadia Lucas will also run in the 1,600 for the Saints.

Anna Sugiyama will be in the high jump, Savanna Stern made the field in the pole vault and Brenda Agus will make her final go-round for Interlake in the discus throw.

Interlake also has an entry in the 400 meter relay.

For the Interlake boys, Evan Turman will run in the 400 meter dash, Ashish Suntosh will be in the field in the 800 and Samuel Giner in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Ryuji Kawashima rounds out the Interlake entries and looks to be near the top of the field in the pole vault.
