Motorcycle ride to benefit Olive Crest to help kids

Eastside Harley in Bellevue will join six other Harley-Davidson dealers to raise funds for Olive Crest.

The Cruise 4 Kids will be held Sunday, June 7. Participants will be raising funds for abused children while competing in a poker run for a brand-new $20,000 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.

The event includes an all-in-fun rivalry among the dealers to attract the most registrants: Whoever signs up the most riders wins a special trophy that they get to display in their store until the following year.

“Our HOGs love a good challenge and are looking forward to winning that trophy for our store,” said Bev Thompson, owner of Eastside Harley. “Of course the real reward for them is in raising funds for the kids of Washington state.”

The dealers, who are collaborating for the first time ever on a ride, also urged motorcyclists to register online at www.cruise4kids.org by May 31 to save $10 on their entry fee — or enjoy free registration when they create their own fundraising page and raise at least $40.

The Cruise begins at Sound Harley in Marysville with a pancake breakfast and on-site registration from 7-9 a.m. At this time, riders will also have the chance to mingle with a number of motorcycle experts, including actor-AMA board member Perry King (The Day After Tomorrow, Riptide) and Harley-Davidson’s Director of Powertrain Design Jeff Coughlin, before embarking on their ride around Puget Sound.

Maps will be provided offering a recommended route, but participants are free to choose their own course; all riders finish at Legend Harley in Silverdale, stopping at the five remaining Harley-Davidson dealerships along the way. At each dealership, competitors will pick up a playing card. At the end of the ride, the top five poker hands will play to win the 2009 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. The day ends with a barbecue, band and awards ceremony.
