The Seattle Humane Society has begin its annual holiday pet food drive to assist low-income seniors keep their pets.
The drive involves Safeway stores across King County.
“Right now, our shelves are almost bare,” said Brenda Barnette, chief executive officer of the Seattle Humane Society. “We need help from our caring community to continue this program that enables so many community members to not have to choose between self care and pet care.”
Last year, the Holiday Pet Food Drive raised more than 16 tons of food. Over 1,220 pets receive food each month.
Any kind of pet food can be donated. The greatest need is for dry food. Drop-off barrels are available at Safeway stores or at the Seattle Humane Society, located in Bellevue.
The Holiday Pet Food Drive will last through Dec. 30.
