An 18-year-old woman had her driver’s license for less than a day, losing it when she allegedly struck a Bellevue school bus while exiting the Crossroads Mall and drove away.
A white BMW reportedly struck the wheel of a southbound Bellevue school bus on Northeast Eighth Street while exiting the mall from 160th Avenue Northeast around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and drove away. No children were injured, but had to be transferred to another bus to continue the route, said Bellevue Police Ofc. Seth Tyler.
Tyler said police had a witnesses to provide the license plate number for the BMW, which was traced to an 18-year-old woman, who said she panicked after the accident and drove home. She was cited for hit-and-run and failing to provide proof of insurance.
“It was her first day with a valid license,” he said. “It was also her last day with a valid license.”
Police report the driver was not coming from Bel-Red Auto License at the Crossroads Mall at the time of the accident.
