Bellevue survives MI, set to face Prep with state ticket on the line Tuesday

Coach Pete Wilkinson’s Wolverines survived a loser-out on Saturday at Bannerwood Park and is now one win from the 3A state baseball tournament.

Bellevue, which fell to Mount Si in Friday’s title game, beat Mercer Island 4-1 behind a complete game performance on the mound from freshman Cal Neely to keep its season alive on Saturday.

The Wolverines will be back at Bannerwood Tuesday for a 6:30 winner-to-state, loser-out game with Seattle Prep, which lost the third place game of the Metro League tournament to West Seattle.

It will be Bonney Lake waiting for the winner at Dream Field in Bellingham on May 18 with first pitch schedule for 10 a.m. The winner of that game will face either West Seattle or Ferndale for one of four spots in Pasco for the state semi-finals.

Totems fall on penalty kicks

Sammamish, which outlasted Burlington-Edison in a loser-out game Thursday, saw its season end one game short of the 2A state soccer tournament on Saturday at Cedarcrest High School, falling to Sedro-Wooley in penalty kicks in the district tournament.

The Totems opened their tourney with a 1-0 win over Squalicum before losing a 1-0 game with eventual tournament champion Archbishop Murphy.
