Wolverines use seven-run sixth to top Liberty

Bellevue struggled through the first five innings of their opening round game against Liberty, but broke out in the sixth for seven runs to take back the lead and move on to the second round.

Eight of the Wolverines’ 11 hits came in the sixth and Anjani Briggs, Taylor Cooke and Kaitlin Melby got things started with a trio of singles that put the Patriots in a bases-loaded, no out situation.

Liberty starter Amber Smith then induced a ground ball that led to a force-out an home, but a Sammie Trulson double made sure she would not escape the inning unscathed.

After the offensive outburst, Emily Fleischman worked a perfect seventh inning to pick up the complete game win. Flesichman allowed five hits and only a single run, striking out five and walking a pair of batters.

Bellevue now faces Mount Si on Friday for a spot in the tournament championship game against regular season champ Juanita.

Vikings on brink after loss to Friday Harbor

Bellevue Christian, seeded seventh in the Northwest Conference baseball tournament, lost to fifth-seeded Friday Harbor by a final score of 14-4 on Thursday.

The Vikings are now one loss from elimination and will meet the eighth seed, Vashon Island on May 13 at Marymoor Park in Redmond with a first pitch time of 3:30 p.m.

A win moves coach Brian Potoshnik’s squad into a winner-to-state game on Saturday.
