Businesses from around the Eastside filled the Meydenbauer Center on Oct. 13 for the fifth annual King County Executive’s Small Business Award, including two from Bellevue.
Two of the Eastside businesses won their categories; Chameleon Technologies in Kirkland for the best overall small business and Asante Salon in Redmond for best woman-owned small business.
Affirma Consulting, a technology consulting and staffing company headquartered in the Eastgate area of Bellevue, was in the running for Small Business of the Year. It competed against the eventual winner, Chameleon Technologies, as well as Red Arrow Logistics in Issaquah and Entitlement and Engineering Solutions, Inc. in Seattle.
Osborn Consulting Inc., in Northwest Bellevue, is a civil engineering firm focusing on water resources and environmental services. It was up for Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year, competing against Asante Salon as well as Apple-A-Day and Gryffin Consulting of Seattle.
Tarelle Osborn, President and principal engineer of Osborn Consulting, said it was an honor to be invited to the event with scores of other small businesses from King County.
“It’s great to have your hard work be recognized by Mayor [Claudia] Balducci and the mayors of other cities in the area,” she said. “It was a great event and it was good to see all the support for small businesses in the area.”
The King County Executive’s Small Business Award was started in 2011. Invitees to this year’s event could enter to win a prize from the 2014 Small Business of the Year, in this case a keg of Fremont Brewing’s Interurban IPA or their Universale Pale Ale.
The other winners of the event were:
• Minority Small Business: Integrated Design Engineers LLC, Seattle.
• Exporting Small Business: Athena Marketing International, Seattle.
• Green/Sustainable Small Business: OneEnergy Renewables, Seattle.
• Workforce Development Small Business: A&R Solar, Seattle.
• Rural Small Business: Seattle Urban Farm Company, Seattle.
