Barrier Motors had to wait nearly 30 years, but partner Michael Vena says the timing now is perfect for constructing a new, expanded Porsche dealership and service center in Bellevue.
The current dealership at the corner of Bel-Red Road and 120th Avenue Northeast is already slated to be removed when the city expands 120th to five lanes. That phase, between Northeast eighth and 12th streets, is slated for June.
Acquiring properties along Northeast Eighth Street was the biggest challenge, said Vena, as Barrier had spent several years working to purchase the Lake Bellevue Shopping Center and Eastside Rental properties, among others. Permits were issued early in December and those properties were demolished.
“For the first time in all these years I have a complete view of the Bellevue skyline,” said Vena of the 33,000 square feet of cleared space now available for construction. “It will be a nice little show piece for us.”
The city reported late last year that auto sales in Bellevue were way above even pre-recession numbers for 2013, and all Barrier dealerships shared in that success, said Vena. He added automotive companies are also creating a need for expansion with increases in vehicle production and model types.
The new Barrier Porsche store is anticipated to be completed by December with the current dealership operating through construction, said Vena. Construction will start following clearing and grading.”It’s been part of our vision since way back in ’85,” said Vena.
“Finally accomplishing that, that was 30 years in the making and we’re really excited about that.”
