Bellevue boys water polo third in San Diego | Prep sports news

Bellevue won its first three matches to reach the semi-finals before finishing in third place.

The Wolverines got things started with a 16-2 win over Monte Vista behind four goals each from Marco Stanchi, George French and Zack Rossman before coming back with a 13-7 win against Helix.

Nine Bellevue players scored in that win, as Stanchi and Cameron Hayes finished with four assists each.

With a spot in the quarterfinals on the line, the Wolverines came back with a 13-11 win over Granite Hills before winning another match over Valley Center by the same score to reach the semi-finals.

But Bellevue ran into the defending tournament champions from Santana in the semis and were unable to erase an early deficit in an 11-9 loss.

Stanchi, French and Rossman were each named to the all-tournament team for Bellevue, which returns home for a senior night showdown with Roosevelt Wednesday at Woodridge with a scheduled start of 3:30 p.m.
