Newport takes third place at state

The Newport Knights girls lacrosse team defeated the Bellevue Wolverines 9-7 in the third place/fourth place game at the Puget Sound girls water polo state championships on May 28 at Curtis High School in University Place. Newport earned victories against Enumclaw, Puyallup and Bellevue at the tourney. Newport’s only loss came against the Curtis Vikings in the semifinals.

Three Wolverines earn coveted honors

The Bellevue Wolverines boys lacrosse team, who defeated the Eastside Catholic Crusaders 7-6 in the Washington Lacrosse Division 1 state championship, had three players named as United States Lacrosse High School All-Americans. Bellevue players Joseph Bethke (forward), Jack Albrecht (midfielder) and Michael Medzegian (defense) earned the coveted All-American honors. Bethke scored 48 goals during the 2016 season.
