Alice L. Hall, formerly of Medina, died on Dec. 16, 2014 after a brief period of declining health. She was 93.
She was born in Algona, Iowa to Donnell and Luella Sparks on July 27, 1921, and was the second oldest of 10 children. She had many interesting stories about life on the farm with a closely knit family that included nearby grandparents, aunts and uncles.
As a young person she was very athletic and also played clarinet in the high school band so she could get into the games. In adulthood she proved to be an excellent bowler with many trophies for her accomplishments. After graduation from nursing school, she married her high school sweetheart and immediately got on a train to Seattle where her husband was stationed in the Coast Guard. For more than 12 years she was a U.S. Public Health Nurse at the Marine Hospital on Beacon Hill.
From 1955 to 1982 she was Postmaster of Medina. In August 2005 she was honored by being the Grand Marshal of the Medina parade honoring the 50 year celebration of the city’s incorporation.
She is survived by a brother, Jim Sparks, of Algona, Iowa, several nieces and nephews plus many friends.
She was a long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bellevue.
A memorial service will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service. The church is located at 1934 108th Ave. N.E.
