Bellevue Police believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in an early morning collision near the Redmond border on the 3100 block of 148th Avenue Northeast involving two vehicles where both drivers were arrested for vehicular assault.

A 29-year-old Bellevue man was reportedly driving his Acura SUV at a high rate of speed southbound on 148th Avenue Northeast around 2 a.m. Thursday when it collided with the passenger side of a Ford Taurus that was making a left turn into an apartment complex causing the 55-year-old passenger from Bellevue serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to police. He was transported to Overlake Medical Center.

The drivers of the Acura and the Taurus, a 57-year-old Redmond man, were both arrested for vehicular assault and booked into the King County Jail following evaluation at Overlake. Vehicular assault is used in vehicular collisions where recklessness and/or impairment are believed to be a factor, and both drivers are believed to have been driving under the influence, police report.

The southbound lanes of 148th were closed until 6:10 a.m.
