Humane Society CEO says county shelter deadline achievable

The Seattle Humane Society has been working with the King County Executive to develop an agreement to provide sheltering services once the Kent and Crossroad shelters close. The Society also is engaged in similar discussions with local cities.

“If there is no delay in bringing all interested parties to the negotiating table, I believe that the January 31st deadline set by County Council is achievable,” said Seattle Humane Society CEO Brenda Barnette.

Barnette noted that the Society’s goal is for the agreement to serve the animals in the community, to make good sense financially, and to support the legislative direction of the King County Council.

“The outcome must be a system that can deliver the very best care to the animals in our county,” Barnette said. “They deserve nothing less.”
