Aegis Living opens senior assisted living community celebrating Chinese culture

Newcastle’s Aegis Gardens features cultural center and preschool open to community.

Aegis Living, a leader in assisted living and memory care, recently hosted a grand opening of Aegis Gardens, a distinctive senior living community open to all who enjoy celebrating Chinese culture.

The Lake Boren 7.5-acre waterfront community is built with inspiration from Shanghai, melded with beautiful Pacific Northwest architecture, according to a news release. The community nurtures residents celebrating Chinese and Asian culture through authentic cuisine, favorite traditional activities, exquisite décor and multilingual staff.

Aegis Gardens blends Eastern and Western approaches to health and wellness that nurture the mind, body and spirit. Residents enjoy regional cuisine, which includes a made-to- order noodle bar, savory dim sum and roasted duck from an authentic duck oven, all while taking in the beautiful view. During the day, residents can take in a game of Mahjong, write a poem in calligraphy or stretch out in tai chi classes that are open to the public.

“Nearly 10 years ago we had a vision for a community that would care for seniors and act as a Northwest epicenter for sharing Chinese heritage and culture,” said Aegis Living CEO and Founder Dwayne Clark. “Aegis Gardens in Newcastle has surpassed our highest expectations for a community that honors Chinese-Americans and all who celebrate Asian cultures. We’re thrilled to build upon nearly 20 years of success with Aegis Gardens in California and open our doors to seniors and the public throughout the Pacific Northwest.”

The adjacent Stan Head Cultural Center is an inviting gathering place, hosting influential speakers, cultural exhibitions and performing arts enriching the lives of all neighbors in the Seattle/Eastside area. Aegis Gardens will also house a preschool bringing children and seniors together to engage and share wisdom across generations.

Twenty-four- hour resident care includes assisted living and memory care provided by staff fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Aegis Gardens features 110 apartments including studios, one and two bedrooms with rents starting at $3,700 per month.

Aegis Gardens of Newcastle received top honors from Senior Housing News receiving the 2017 National Architecture and Design Award in the senior living category. The award recognizes innovative design that improves the lives of residents.
