Bellevue Microsoft Store to celebrate women in STEM fields with March workshops

International Women’s Day is March 8.

The Microsoft Store at Bellevue Square Mall will bring together two generations of women throughout the month of March.

They will host free coding workshops and speakers, including retired U.S. Navy Captain and Astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, pilots and software engineers, to discuss their personal career paths and how STEM learning was critical in their journey.

During these free speaker events on select Saturdays in March, participants ages 11-18 will learn to code and get an opportunity to learn from leading women in STEM careers.

Events:

• DigiGirlz: Women in Aviation – From 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, this workshop is for young women ages 11-18 to understand more about how the opportunities computer science and coding can create for them. Event will feature coding workshop, discussion and Q&A with two pilots, Beth Oliver and Karen White.

• DigiGirlz: Women in Coding – From 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, this workshop will allow women 11-18 to learn more about how computer science and coding can create opportunities for them. The event will feature coding workshop, discussion and Q&A with Microsoft software engineer, Nayomi Mitchell.

• DigiGirlz: Women in Space – From 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, this workshop for 11-18-year-old young women will feature a livestreamed discussion and Q&A from Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, a retired U.S. Navy Captain and astronaut, and will highlight various opportunities in computer science and coding.

The Microsoft Store is located on level 1 near Madewell at Bellevue Square Mall, 116 Bellevue Square in Bellevue.
