Downtown highrise project begins construction

Construction workers have broken ground on the first high rise development since 2008. Work began on first of two buildings that will comprise Soma Towers, a mixed use development located on 106th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Second Street. The 21-story tower is expected to feature 142 apartment units, and 10,000 square feet of retail. It will also have 5,300 square feet of office space and an underground parking lot with nearly 200 spaces.

The 21-story tower is expected to feature 142 apartment units, and 10,000 square feet of retail. It will also have 5,300 square feet of office space and an underground parking lot with nearly 200 spaces.

The centerpiece of the first tower will be a 3,400 square-foot exhibition hall.

A second, 18-story tower will be built in the future. Project plans call for the second tower to begin construction in approximately two years.

The buildings will feature a window-heavy, curved exterior. The towers will be linked by a three-story podium.
