Join Emerald Ballet Academy as they mark their 20th Anniversary of the beloved Nutcracker.
Under the direction of choreographer and former Bolshoi ballerina Viktoria Titova, this year’s Nutcracker is a celebration of two decades of artistry, community, and dedication, accompanied by a live orchestra led by internationally acclaimed conductor David Waltman.
“The live music adds an unmatched depth to the performance, creating a truly unforgettable experience for both dancers and the audience,” Titova says.
Emerald Ballet provides personalized training to students of all ages and abilities – from preschool to pre-professional, with a welcoming, supportive environment that includes classes, Emerald Ballet productions, outreach performances and competitions.
“This year’s milestone production features an opportunity for our dancers to perform alongside guest artists,” Titova says. Jonathan Batista will be the Principal Dancer from Pacific Northwest Ballet and Dylan Callahan will be part of Corps de Ballet from Pacific Northwest Ballet.
This anniversary presents new costumes and props. You won’t want to miss this new production!
Spotlight on dancers
For many young dancers, participating in The Nutcracker is a formative experience. Chloe, one of the performers, expressed her excitement about working with guest artist Jonathan Batista. “Even though we have only met and rehearsed once, I’m already inspired! It’s amazing how professional he is. I’m starstruck by how much joy and technique he integrates into his dancing. He’s an amazing role model.”
Kate, another dancer, highlighted the lessons she’s learned from Dylan Callahan. “I’ve learned about the value of hard work and dedication to one’s craft. Dylan’s attention to detail in choreography builds confidence and trust with your partner. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to work with him in this year’s Nutcracker.”
Olivia S., a younger dancer, shared her thoughts: “Performing in The Nutcracker allows me to express myself through dance and apply what I’ve learned in daily classes. It builds confidence and gives me a taste of what it might be like to join a professional ballet company. I’m excited to play Little Clara and Party Girl this year, and every time I put on my costume, I feel a rush of excitement.”
