Overlake Hospital Medical Center and Overlake Medical Clinics recently hired three new physicians including Alan R. Ertle, MD, in the recently created role of chief medical officer and vice president of network development; cardiothoracic surgeon Jeffrey D. Lee, MD,to join its cardiac surgery program; and Mandana Shamsa, MD to join its internal medicine clinic on the hospital campus.

Dr. Ertle will focus his responsibilities on expanding the hospital’s physician network and serving as liaison between Overlake’s administration and its 1,000-member medical staff. Ertle recently served as senior vice president of medical affairs for Cascade Healthcare Community, Inc., a three-hospital, not-for-profit health system in central Oregon.

Prior to joining CHC, Ertle was medical director for the Corvallis Clinic, an 80-physician multispecialty clinic in the Willamette Valley.

He graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School and did his Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary Disease Fellowship at UCLA. Additionally, he completed a Medical Informatics Fellowship at Oregon Health Sciences University. He also earned his Master of Public Health from OHSU and his MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colo.

Dr. Lee specializes in treatment for atrial fibrillation and is one of the country’s leading physicians in minimally invasive atrial fibrillation surgical procedures.

Before joining Overlake, Lee had a private practice in cardiothoracic surgery in Hawaii and was also vice chairman of the surgery department at Hawaii Medical Center – East in Honolulu as well as associate clinical professor of surgery at The John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii.

Lee graduated from the New York University School of Medicine, did his General Surgery Residency at the UCLA School of Medicine and completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He also completed a Surgical Oncology Training Fellowship at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Shamsa specializes in women’s health issues and management of chronic health conditions.

Before joining Overlake, Shamsa was a primary care physician with Highline Medical Center in Burien. Before that, she worked as a hospitalist at Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Shamsa received her medical degree from the Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
