Spiced Truly Chinese Cuisine on 156th Avenue in Bellevue was shut down by the King County Public Health inspectors on Aug. 13 after finding more than a dozen health code violations.

Inspectors found the restaurant did not have proper labeling of toxic substances, proper hand washing facilities, that employees were not washing their hands as required, and were not thoroughly cleaning surfaces and utensils used for raw meat, among other issues.

The majority of the health code violations were labeled “critical”, meaning they have the highest risk of causing a food borne disease.

If a business receives 90 or more critical violation points, King County Public Health is required to close the establishment.

Spiced received 155 critical violation points, plus another eight violation points for improper storage and sanitation of wiping cloths, improper labeling and signage, and not cleaning and maintaining non-food contact surfaces.

Violations such as hand washing and food temperatures are considered the most severe, and elicit 25 points each.

The Public Health department allows establishments to reopen when they have remedied the conditions that led to the closure, submitted a place of correction to prevent reoccurrence, and obtained a re-inspection. The restaurant reopened on Friday, Aug. 14. The restaurant is still open for business as of press time.

The business’ owners did not respond to requests for comment.
