T-Mobile will expand its presence at Newport Corporate Center at I-90 and I-405, officials of Bentall Capital (U.S.) LLC announced Friday.
As part of the deal, SITQ, which owns the six-building Newport Corporate Center, will develop a new 165,320-square-foot building for T-Mobile. In addition, T-Mobile is extending its lease of 360,225 square feet of space on the campus through 2015.
“This deal is the latest in a string of successful collaborations between Newport Corporate Center and T-Mobile,” said Bentall Capital Vice President Lisa Rowe, who negotiated the deal on behalf of SITQ. “We’re proud that Newport Corporate Center has been able to support T-Mobile’s impressive growth over the years.”
T-Mobile has grown significantly since it moved to Newport Corporate Center about a decade ago, when the company operated as Western Wireless. This is the third major expansion for T-Mobile on the campus, which currently houses more than 3,500 T-Mobile employees. The Newport Corporate Center is located at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 405.
Newport Corporate Center is the headquarters of T-Mobile USA. When the new building is completed for T-Mobile, the office park will total 1,060,000 square feet, with T-Mobile occupying approximately 94 percent of the total space.
“T-Mobile remains a major employer in Bellevue and the Puget Sound area,” said Mark Comstock, vice president, Real Estate, T-Mobile USA. “We’re pleased to be able to continue expanding our operations in this vibrant part of the country.”
Rowe said construction of the new building, which will be called Two Newport, will begin immediately after crews demolish a 25-year-old office building. Workers from Sellen Construction, the Seattle-based project contractor, have begun preparations for razing the nearly 39,750-square-foot building, which occupies the site of the new development.
Designed by Seattle-based LMN Architects, the new building will be six stories tall and have 616 stalls of underground parking. It is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2010. A skybridge will connect it to T-Mobile’s existing office space in an adjacent building.
