Two events for learning about trade opportunities with India will take place in Bellevue this month.
The first, “Business Beyond Boundaries: The U.S. and India — Making the Most of a New Era of Collaboration,” will be Aug. 19, 6-9 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel (11010 Northeast Eighth Street). Panelists will explain the dynamics of the Indian economy and offer tips on how entrepreneurs can get established and avoid pitfalls.
The event will include dinner, a business panel discussion and a question-and-answer period. Panelists will include Jonathan Bensky, formerly U.S. foreign service minister counselor for commercial affairs to the European Union and South and Southeast Asia.

The second event, “Insights on India and the Pacific Northwest,” will be Aug. 26, 5:30-8 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall (450 110th Avenue Northeast). The discussion will focus on agricultural trade opportunities and the benefits of a new Indian General Consulate in the Bellevue-Seattle area.
The event will include a buffet dinner and feature presentations by Susmita G. Thomas, consul general of India, San Francisco; Prabhu Pingali, deputy director for policy at the Gates Foundation; and George Paulose, president of Ames International.

Bellevue has an Indian population of more than 15 percent, the largest in the state. It has grown 1000 percent since 2000.
