Judy Bushnell’s announced retirement after 18 years on the Bellevue School Board will be a sad day for the entire community. She has been the rock on the board, shepherding the district through countless difficult decisions.

I have known many dozens of elected officials, local state and federal. I can’t think of anyone other than Bushnell who genuinely sought advice and sometimes even followed it.

She has been a great public servant doing a generally thankless job. We’re all going to miss her.
